This small island in Lake Victoria covers an area of only 0.7 sq. km. Very little wildlife lives on Saanane, but plans are in place to introduce new species. It will then be elevated to National Park status – bringing the number of Tanzania’s national parks to 16.
The great-spiral-horned Greater Kudu lives here along with many other antelope species, large numbers of elephant, hippo and predators can also be spotted. Selous birdlife is prolific, with over 400 species including the endangered Wattled Crane.
