Day 1: Arusha – Lake Natron

Pick up in Arusha and transfer to one of the Lake Natron campsites or tented lodges. The last leg of the journey takes you through breathtaking scenery, with mini-calderas dotting the landscape. The camps are at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley, with the Ngorongoro Highlands rising above.

Day 2: Lake Natron

Early in the morning, take a short drive and walk to the shores of Lake Natron. Many flamingos can be found here, as well as a jackal looking for food. After lunch, there will be another short hike to Engaresero Waterfalls, which have a naturally formed, incredibly convenient Jacuzzi! Dinner will be served early in order to allow for a few hours of sleep before being awakened at 23.30 hrs. to make final preparations for the hike.

Day 3: Lake Natron – Ol Doinyo Lengai – Lake Natron

At 24.00 hrs., leave the campsite and drive to the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai to begin climbing the Mountain of God. The path itself is difficult to navigate and steep the entire way. It turns into powdery ash near the rim, like trudging through deep soft snow! Arriving at the summit just in time for sunrise is the ultimate reward! This volcano is still active, with glowing rock frequently seen bubbling out of the numerous ash cones on top. Descend late in the morning, just in time for a hearty lunch, a dip in the stream, and a celebratory drink! Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 4: Lake Natron – Arusha

After a good night's sleep and relaxation, you can go on a game drive to Lake Natron to learn more about the local culture, or swim in the waterfall pools. Transfer to Arusha after a hearty lunch.
