As with Ruaha, the Selous boasts an airstrip for light aircraft. The Rufiji River (into which the Great Ruaha River flows) is the life blood of this vast area of savannah woodland, grassland plains and rocky outcrops.
The great-spiral-horned Greater Kudu lives here along with many other antelope species, large numbers of elephant, hippo and predators can also be spotted. Selous birdlife is prolific, with over 400 species including the endangered Wattled Crane.
