The main attraction of this 2,000 sq. km conservation area is its biodiversity and unparalleled rain forest. Unique to Udzungwa are plant species not found anywhere else in the world and the Sanje crested mangabey – one of eleven types of monkey resident here. Rare forest birds, three species of mongoose, bush babies (galago) and the fierce, fearless honey badger (Ratel) are more easily seen than the larger species of elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard.
