Overview

Starting from Arusha, this long trip covers Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park and a visit to the famous rock paintings of Kondoa. Via Dodoma, you will continue on to Ruaha National Park, the Uluguru Mountains and Selous Game Reserve. Day 15 sees your transfer to, and departure from, Dar es Salaam airport.

Day 1:

On your arrival at the Airport, you will be met by a Parks East Africa representative and transferred to Arusha for safari briefing and overnight at Ilboru Safari Lodge (dinner, bed & breakfast)

Day 2:

This morning, your long-awaited safari starts with a drive to Lake Manyara National Park, which lies at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Look out for Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, admire the stately giraffe and the great grey elephant as they graze among herds of fleet-footed impala and troops of foraging baboons. After a satisfying picnic lunch and sated with game viewing, head for the hills and overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel (full board)

Day 3:

After breakfast depart Manyara and drive up to, and across, the magnificent Ngorongoro Highlands en route to Serengeti National Park. Marvel at the abundance of animals and birds on these seemingly endless plains, which stretch to the horizon all around you. Continue game viewing until you arrive at Seronera Wildlife Lodge for overnight (full board)

Day 4:

Early morning game drive along the Seronera River in search of hunting cheetah and breakfasting lion. After a leisurely lunch at the lodge, proceed to Olduvai Gorge for a brief visit to the museum. Seek out the Shifting Sands as you drive slowly back to Ngorongoro for overnight on the Crater rim at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge (full board)

Day 5:

After early breakfast, descend to the crater floor and gaze at the extraordinary number and variety of animals which have their home in this natural amphitheatre. Thrill to the pink cloud of flamingo on the central lake, look for black rhino and huge-tusked elephant, watch prides of lion and clans of hyena – and much, much more. Mid-afternoon departure for Tarangire National Park and overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge (full board)

Day 6:

Full day in Tarangire National Park with its huge herds of elephant and ancient baobab trees; morning and afternoon game drives among the prolific wildlife and amazing endemic birds of this beautiful park. Relax at your lodge, built on a bluff and overlooking the Tarangire River, in the heart of Tarangire park. Overnight Tarangire Safari Lodge (full board)

Day 7:

Morning departure from Tarangire for a scenic drive to the extraordinary rock painting of Kondoa Irangi near the village of Kolo. After a picnic lunch at this World Heritage Site, continue on to your next destination – Tanzania’s capital city of Dodoma. Overnight at Dodoma Hotel (full board)

Day 8:

Full day in Dodoma, with a visit to Tanzania’s parliamentary headquarters and a tour of the local markets etc., of Dodoma town. Overnight at Dodoma Hotel (full board)

Day 9:

Early morning departure for Ruaha National Park. Covering an area of 3,980 sq. miles, Ruaha is Tanzania’s second biggest park. Game viewing in the park en route to Ruaha River Lodge, arriving in time for dinner. Overnight at Ruaha River Lodge (full board)

Day 10 & 11:

Two full days in Ruaha National Park with game drives and optional guided walks and/or a boat safari on the Great Ruaha River among numerous crocodile, hippo and water birds. Ruaha boasts Africa’s largest population of greater kudu as well as well as herds of the majestic sable and roan antelope. Overnight at Ruaha River Lodge (full board)

Day 12:

After early morning game drive, we depart for Morogoro – a town with stunning views of the fertile and biologically diverse Uluguru Mountains. Overnight at Morogoro Hotel (full board)

Day 13:

Morning departure for Selous Game Reserve, another World Heritage Site and the largest protected wildlife area in Africa. Game viewing en route to dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp (full board)

Day 14:

Full day to explore the Selous, with game drives and optional guided walk and/or boat safari on the Rufiji River. Traverse the grassland plains and savannah woodland in the company of a countless variety of antelope and primate, birds and beasts. Meals and overnight at Rufiji River Camp (full board)

14

Day 15:

Departure for Dar es Salaam, arriving at the airport in time to check-in for your flight back home (half board – breakfast & lunch)
